Children in Treatment Rooms Policy

Parents or legal guardians cannot have children present in the treatment room during a treatment session.

Policy Overview

This policy ensures a safe, professional, and therapeutic environment for both clients and practitioners during remedial massage, low level laser therapy (LLLT), or physiotherapy treatments.

Purpose

  • Maintain client privacy, modesty, and relaxation.
  • Prevent safety hazards in a clinical environment containing oils, hot stones, heavy equipment, and treatment oils.
  • Ensure strict adherence to laser safety protocols, protecting children from accidental exposure to harmful laser beams or reflections.
  • Allow the practitioner and client to focus fully on the therapeutic assessment and treatment plan without distraction.

Scope

  • Applies to all clients, parents, legal guardians, and therapists at the clinic.
  • Applies to all adult or minor client sessions where a parent or guardian attempts to bring an unsupervised child into the treatment space.

Guidelines

  • No Children in Treatment Rooms: Children of any age are not permitted inside the treatment room while an adult or another minor is receiving treatment.
  • Supervision Requirement: Children cannot be left unattended in the reception or waiting area. A second responsible adult must supervise the child outside the treatment room if the client needs to bring them to the venue.
  • Exceptions: This policy does not apply when the child is the actual patient receiving an approved, consented paediatric treatment requiring a guardian’s presence.

Procedures & Enforcement

  • Advance Notice: Staff will remind clients during booking that childcare arrangements must be made prior to arrival.
  • Appointment Rescheduling: If a client arrives with a child and lacks alternative supervision, the clinic may need to reschedule the appointment. Cancellation fees may apply according to standard clinic policy.
  • Therapist Discretion: Therapists hold the right to stop or decline a session if a child’s presence compromises safety or professional boundaries.
